PRG helps member SIMPLY FIGHT!

By providing assistance with needs such as meals and housekeeping during breast cancer treatment, Pink Ribbon Girls hopes to help lighten your load while you Simply Fight!

Program recipient, Eugenia, explains what the Simply Fight! services mean to her.

I am so grateful to know that such a great resource is available to my family here in Dayton. (Joining Pink Ribbon Girls) was my first small step forward to try to locate a peer group and begin processing all that had transpired during my journey with stage four breast cancer.

I was diagnosed four days after giving birth to my son Azariyah. At that time, my daughters Kortney and Aliyah were 12 and 1. Imagine the turmoil in our home! I spent a lot of time trying to keep things together for everyone and I have to admit (ironically) that my treatment time was the only time that I had to be still, rest, and focus on me. I only made it through with the help of God. I was tremendously blessed throughout!

What has made a world of difference to me has been the meal assistance--saves me a ton of time and energy with shopping, meal prep, and cleaning. The chef that prepares the meals is so great. He makes every effort to accommodate our extensive food allergies and provides tasty but healthy choices for us. We were honored to meet him when he personally delivered to us one day!  It has brought so much relief for me as I am preparing for a second round of chemo and taking daily naps to know that I will not feel so overwhelmed with my physical limitations because your organization is here. In addition, the housekeeping support helps me to better maintain our 3 bedroom, 3 bath townhouse as housecleaning, two toddlers, a teen, and stair steps take a physical toll on me daily.

I still live with daily back pain and with breast cancer that metastasized to the bone---I have to be as careful as possible with my body. I am describing much of this just to give you a snapshot of the scope of the services you are providing. They are far reaching for families like my own as we are pretty much on our own (unfortunately friends and family are not able to help as much as they would like to).

Another special touch is being able to talk with others who are pretty experienced and caring enough to encourage me when I need it. Heather especially has a way of saying I relate to what you are going through but I also expect you to be ok for a long time (my words). That is the hope in my heart and I certainly have seen and continue to believe in miracles.

In a nutshell, your program is awesome because these services seem specifically geared toward relieving the daily pressure that women who are living with breast cancer face as the heart of the families. It was much needed and now I can feel even more strengthened to take care of my health.

Thank you--

Eugenia
