I was ready to enjoy my last year in my 20's...

Simply Fight! program recipient, Emily,
spent her 29th year in an unexpected way.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer 22 days after my 29th birthday on January 16, 2013. That was the day my life completely changed. I was ready to have a great year and enjoy my last year in my 20's. Boy was I wrong.

When I found my lump, I was having stabbing pain. I went to see my gynecologist who then referred me to get a mammogram and an ultrasound. The radiologist came in and said he was worried about how it looked. The next day I had my biopsies done and met my nurse navigator, Deena, at Christ Hospital. She is an amazing woman and is there for you day or night. She and the doctor called me while I was at work and let me know I had Stage II Breast Cancer.

I decided to do in vitro fertilization to preserve my fertility. Within two weeks of getting my diagnosis, I had done in vitro, harvesting, port placement and started my 16 rounds of chemotherapy. Shortly after, I had a single mastectomy and another to follow 6 - 8 months later.

I heard about Pink Ribbon Girls through Deena and have been grateful ever since. I don't know what I would have done without my family, friends, Deena, and Pink Ribbon Girls for all of their love and support. I am thankful to have Pink Ribbon Girls in my life. I received meals from them for my sister and myself. They were absolutely amazing. It was great during treatment to not have to worry about what I was going to prepare for dinner. It was definitely a weight lifted.

I want to thank everyone for all of their kind words and support through my cancer experience. I could not have stayed as positive as I did without everyone's support.
